Ouch, be careful! The prickly pear can be deliciously dangerous if you prick yourself on its spine covered pads. Like most cacti, the prickly pear cactus has long, sharp spines that stick out from its pads and have harder-to-see tiny spines found at the base of the more predominant spines. This beautiful cactus produces beautiful flowers along each growing pad, ranging from bright yellow to deep magenta and post flowering offers up sweet "pear" fruit. The prickly pear can grow upwards to 6 ft tall and 8 ft wide depending on the genus. All parts, with exception to the spines, are completely edible. Exotic and distinct, this cactus adds a special touch to any landscaping project. Prickly Pear Cacti do well in containers and would look amazing paired with our hand crafted Western Cedar planter.
